Klondike Star Mineral Corporation is exploring the use of Google Earth imagery to feature our projects. This tour is a journey over the land of the legendary 1898 Klondike gold rush. Due to the confidential nature of certain information, the tour contains a selection of exploration data showing the scope of our projects and what we are doing to explore them. For another perspective on our exploration activities you can download our Property Book - A Visual Tour (PDF). Now on with the live tour.
First, get your copy of Google Earth. If you already have Google Earth, ensure that it is current (v. 4+). There are tutorials available to show how the program works. It's important to understand that Google Earth works as a set of satellite imagery, overlaid by layers of information.
Next, download the Klondike Star Live Tour File. Open it. The file will open in the Temporary Places section at the bottom of the Places panel on the left side of your Google Earth program window. Click on the triangle beside the file name to open the Klondike Star Live Tour folder.
It contains 4 main layers, each stored as a folder: Project boundaries, Exploration, Names and Viewpoints. Open the Project boundaries folder and double click Lone Star Quartz to center this project on your screen. Click in the Lone Star Quartz tick box to turn on the project's boundaries.
Open the Exploration folder and then the Lone Star folder. Turn on the Lone Star zones tick box to see identified mineralized zones on the project. Double click inside the circle around the Lone Star zone to zoom closer in.
Turn off the Lone Star Quartz project boundaries to see the land itself. The land will be somewhat fuzzy due to the quality of imagery available through Google Earth in the Klondike. Turn on the diamond drill and trench layers. Now, zoom in closer to see more about this project. You will gain an appreciation for the amount of work required in exploration when you realize that the diameter of the circle around the Lone Star zone is about 1 kilometer! The photo shows drilling and trenching on the Lone Star zone.
When you are done exploring, turn off any active layers, then double click on the Project boundaries folder to center this area on your screen. Then turn on all the project boundaries by clicking on the Project boundaries' tick box. This will show the claim blocks associated with each project, each in a different color. Turn on the Names folder tick box. Then, click on the Viewpoint folder. Now for the tour...click the play triangle at the bottom of the places panel and Google Earth will bring you from a Yukon overview, to interesting 3D views of the Klondike and each of our projects.
Have fun!!
